From May 18th to 24th, a seminar on fruit logistics for southern Thailand, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and organized by Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, or CATAS, was held in Haikou, the capital city of China’s Hainan Province. A total of 10 senior officials, including the Chumphon Provincial Governor Mr. Visa Pulsirirat, along with representatives from the province's departments of finance, commerce, agriculture, natural resources, and education, participated in this seminar. Mr. Li Jihua, Vice President of CATAS, and Mr. Wang Jianguo, an Inspector from the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, attended the closing ceremony of the seminar.
On behalf of the organizer, Vice President Li expressed gratitude to the Hainan Provincial People’s Government for its strong support and congratulated all the participants on successfully completing the training. He suggested to actively build a bilateral durian technology cooperation platform by leveraging the advantages of the durian industry in Chumphon Province and the technological advantages of CATAS, and invited the participants to attend the Global Tropical Agriculture Innovation Conference of CATAS at the end of the year.
Governor Visa Pulsirirat, representing all the participants, expressed gratitude to the Hainan Government for its support and CATAS for its thoughtful arrangements. He mentioned that this seminar effectively drew on the development model and technological experience of Hainan,, and looked forward to technical cooperation in tropical fruit storage, transportation, and preservation technology, as well as the research and development of maturity detection devices.
Inspector Wang said that Hainan and Chumphon boast a solid foundation and vast cooperation space in areas such as tourism, economy and trade, and culture. In particular, the durians produced in Chumphon Province are highly fresh, delicious, and of good quality, which are popular in the Chinese market. As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, as well as the first year of implementing independent customs operations of the Hainan Free Trade Port, Hainan looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with Chumphon Province to share its dividends of development.
